Mónica Cameião - 2016 ISVR Early Career Investigator Award

We are pleased to announce that Professor Mónica Cameirão was awarded the 2016 ISVR Early Career Investigator Award, an award granted by the International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation. The International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation's (ISVR) Early Career Investigator Award recognizes and acknowledges outstanding contributions by early career scientists whose research relates to virtual rehabilitation. ISVR provides a multidisciplinary forum for engineers, scientists and clinicians who are interested in employing new technologies for physical, psychological, cognitive, and social rehabilitation applications. The purpose of the society is to facilitate interaction between the communities interested in the field in order to: promote discussion, facilitate standardization, create opportunities for collaboration, represent the virtual rehabilitation community and provide recognition for excellence.

Professor Mónica Cameirão (http://m-iti.org/people/monica) has been working since 2006 in the development and clinical assessment of virtual rehabilitation tools. Mónica is co-principal investigator of the NeuroRehabLab (http://neurorehabilitation.m-iti.org/) and her research revolves at the intersection of technology, neuroscience and clinical practice to find novel solutions to increase the quality of life of those with special needs, with a special emphasis on stroke survivors. Her work capitalizes on Virtual Reality and Serious Games to exploit specific brain mechanisms that relate to functional recovery to approach motor and cognitive rehabilitation by means of non-invasive and low-cost technologies. Mónica has participated in multiple competitive European and national research projects and is currently collaborating with the Madeira Public Health System (SESARAM) in the field deployment and validation of these technologies.
