Mónica Cameião - 2016 ISVR Early Career Investigator Award

Professor Mónica Cameirão (http://m-iti.org/people/monica) has been working since 2006 in the development and clinical assessment of virtual rehabilitation tools. Mónica is co-principal investigator of the NeuroRehabLab (http://neurorehabilitation.m-iti.org/) and her research revolves at the intersection of technology, neuroscience and clinical practice to find novel solutions to increase the quality of life of those with special needs, with a special emphasis on stroke survivors. Her work capitalizes on Virtual Reality and Serious Games to exploit specific brain mechanisms that relate to functional recovery to approach motor and cognitive rehabilitation by means of non-invasive and low-cost technologies. Mónica has participated in multiple competitive European and national research projects and is currently collaborating with the Madeira Public Health System (SESARAM) in the field deployment and validation of these technologies.
