"Welcome to the December 2014 Newsletter of ISVR which continues to bring exciting updates about the activities of the Society and its members as well as developments in the field of Virtual Rehabilitation. In this issue, the Technology Profile spotlight is on Andrea Gaggioli, a cyberpsychologist affiliated with the Department of Psychology at the Catholic University of Milan, Italy. Together with Dr. Giuseppe Riva and a multidisciplinary research team, Dr. Gaggioli has been involved with the adaptation of existing technologies to develop apps for mental health and well-being such as NeuroVR. The Clinical Profile focuses on Denise Krch, Research Scientist in the Traumatic Brain Injury Laboratory at the Kessler Foundation Research Center in New Jersey. Dr. Krch’s research interests include the efficacy of cognitive rehabilitation interventions for persons with Multiple Sclerosis and Traumatic Brain Injury. Interventions to improve cognition, balance and upper limb movement developed on several VR platforms are being assessed, such as driving simulators, Assessim Office and Mystic Isle. The feature points out some of the challenges and benefits of using VR for cognitive training. A new feature this month is a contributed article by Luis Enrique Sucar, Felipe Orihuela-Espina, David Reinkensmeyer, Ronald Leder and Jorge Hernández Franco describing a low-cost webcam tracking-based VR platform – Gesture Therapy (GT) – an upper limb rehabilitation application specifically developed for middle income countries such as Mexico. In this issue you can also find links to three new publications specifically devoted to VR technologies and their applications as well as a summary of the recent ICDVRAT conference held in Gothenburg in September. We are looking forward with excitement to the 11th International Conference on Virtual Rehabilitation (https://virtual-rehab.org/2015). This meeting will be held in collaboration with the International Conference on Recent Advances in Neurorehabilitation (ICRAN 2015) and the International Neurorehabilitation Symposium (INRS2015). This exciting week of conferences will take place in Valencia, Spain from June 9-12, 2015.
